Contribute Financial Assistance to the SACOSAN IV Conference – 4th to 7th April 2011, held in Colombo
The South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN) held in 2003 in Bangladesh declared that SACOSAN to be introduced to SAARC countries in the region as a process in order to review progress achieved in the sanitation sector in each country. With the realization that a large number of un-served people living in south Asia, SACOSAN is used as the platform for resolving regional sanitation issues.
SACOSAN IV Conference will be held from 4-7 April 2011 at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo. Around 500 delegates from seven participating countries and International Development Agencies are expected to participate at the Conference.
The participants will include Hon. Ministers, Senior Government Officers, representatives from donor agencies, NGOs and civil societies, journalists etc. The Ministerial Summit will be inaugurated by His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Gemidiriya wishes to exchange knowledge and the regional experiences on Sanitation and Hygiene issues in particular to South Asia, as the Project is one of the main stakeholders of the rural sanitation delivering nearly 10,000 domestic, hygienically fit sanitation facilities among rural communities in difficult districts such as Polonnaruwa, Monaragala, Badulla, Hambantota, Ratnapura, Galle & Matara. It is also expected to expand sanitation facilities further, to Kegalle & Nuwara Eliya districts as well.
On the request of the General Manager, National Water Supply & Drainage Board the Project Director Mr. Karunaratne Pallegedara has agreed to contribute financial assistance to the SACOSAN IV Conference event which is scheduled to be commenced in 4th April 2011.
