One of the main objectives of the first phase of Gemidiriya is "Working with federations of village organizations, the private sector and Non-Governmental Organisations on economic empowerment to increase the size and diversity of livelihood options."
At present 32 + 123 + VSHLI peoples companies are registered under the Registrar of Companies. In order to achieve the above objective initial requirement will be to establish federations in the districts, where the Gemidiriya Project is being implemented.
At the workshop with the Registrar of Companies on 05/10/2005, it was suggested that The public Company is the best form of institution for the federation. Accordingly with the participation of Board of Directors of Gemidiriya People's Companies four federations will be incorporated in Polannaruwa, Badulla, Hambantota and Monaragala Districts. |
