As India and Sri Lanka always share similar experiences, their approaches towards poverty alleviation, livelihood improvement and empowerment of the rural community look similar. Hence, two exposure visit were organized by the Gamidiriya Foundation in 2005, aimed at capacity building of gamidiriya stakeholders .The focus was on promoting community development ,and the similarities as well as the differences in the method used by similar project
Two groups of Gemidiriya Communities consist of Chairpersons of Village Organizations (VOs), Chairpersons of Village Savings and Credit Organizations, Community Facilitators and Divisional Secretaries of the respective areas participated in these exposure visits to Andra Pradesh, India.
Back in home, Gemidiriya community leaders expressing their views said that the experience gained through these exposure visits are invaluable and enable them to improve community activities with much confidence and interest. Apparently they were motivated and Gemidiriya expects that community members and government officers who participated in those exposure visits will modernize and help to operate community level activities successfully. |
