To breakaway from the vicious cycle of poverty and earn a stable income is not an easy task. But you can find many such examples in the Gemidiriya project. The story of Mr. Francis in the Haldummulla Kithularawa Gemidiriya Peoples Company is one such example.
The Kithularawa Gemidiriya Peoples Company was started two years ago. After the Gemidiriya project came the lives of most people in the village changed for the better. Most families in the village were able to find a source of income thanks to Gemidiriya livelihood development projects. The VSCO (Village Savings and Credit Organisation) gave Rs1,320,000 credit facilities for 137 families to start income generating projects.

“I also received Rs.50,000 loan to start a project. I took the loan and started an animal husbandry project and I carry it out  successfully. Gemidiriya provides us the much needed and scarce capital as well as guidance and link us with the markets”, Francis said.
